Football is a game loved all over the world, people might be separated by geographies or language but the passion for the game unites them 🙂 Recently, when we spent a wandering week in Goa (October 2017), we had a beautiful encounter with the display of sheer passion. Interestingly, this was also the period when ‘2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup’ was taking place in India and few of the matches were held in Margoa, South Goa (Fatorda Stadium). We were staying just few kilometers from the stadium and witnessed few of the practice sessions, however, the practice off the field caught our attention more.
Here is the photo story, all the pictures are shot at Benaulim Beach, South Goa –
I have never played Football like this but while I looked at these kids, I could feel the excitement and a burst of energy
And that is the perfect goal!! That moment and to be able to capture it on Camera gave me a HIGH.
Even I didn’t play like that 😊 nice captures 📷

Thank you 🙂 🙂 I see kids these days in Metros are getting crushed under the pressure so much that they hardly get time to play. I hope things change.

You were at the right time and right place to get the photo of the ball on the foot and that big bird flying by just then- what a huge bird in flight that looks like an eagle or hawk – what was it?

That is so true!! Yeah, it was an eagle, I absolutely enjoyed photographing the kids.

I’ve never played football like this with abandon and so much thrill in the water. Playing football in the water seems to be the toughest part but admire the energy of those kids.

Same here ☺️ Never got to play football…I remember my brother used to play and his favourite time was to play in rain. These kids on the beach were having such great time, I was missing my childhood as I watched them play. Have a great day.

I played in childhood and often see peeps playing at the park where I go for walk. Reminds me of street football in SoBo outside Fort in the rain with the kids playing on the road, barefoot. Gosh! Those Mumbai memories can screw the mind and so fucking vivid.

Oh yeah, Street Football! I have seen boys playing in Goa too, reminded me of Mumbai. Both the places get so much rain, ample opportunity for football lovers.

Yeps! I love the place where Mumbai University back gate is and opposite banks with tapdi. That’s where those kids were playing 🙂

Great shots. My cricket club in 1960s London had a regular fixture with the State Bank of India. Our opponents all communicated with each other in English, because that was their only common language

Thank you so much Derrick ☺️☺️. That’s interesting, 1960s must be so different I can imagine. Do you have any pictures of that time?

I have been scanning and posting thousands of slides and negatives from the early ’60s onwards. The shots of the queue for Sir Winston Churchill’s lying in state in 1965 in this post might give the flavour you seek. Thank you for the interest:) https://derrickjknight.com/2015/01/24/1000-days/
